Tantalus, a Victory ship. These ships were built quickly and cheaply in the
U.S.A. as replacements for the enormous losses suffered in the Atlantic during
World War 2. They were simple, fairly basic ships, not meant to last, but in
fact they kept going until the early seventies.
Tantalus was completed as Macmurray Victory and then sailed as Polyphemus whilst
she belonged to NSMO, the Dutch arm of Blue Funnel. She transferred to the
British flag in 1960.
